Aug 17, 2022

International School of Sosua is an accredited school in the North Coast of the Dominican Republic where students can earn a world-class education in the Caribbean.

In the video below the school’s principal, Director, and 2 teachers talk about curriculum and culture in this well-respected learning academy. The International School of Sosua in the Puerto Plata province offers many programs that set this school apart. It’s sports programs include basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, horseback riding, and yoga.

The Cabarete/Sosua Neighborhood

Cabarete/Sosua are beach-side towns where watersports like Surf, Kitesurf, Windsurf, foil-boarding, snorkeling, scuba, sailing, sport fishing, and spearfishing are very popular. This has created a community of people who have moved from their home countries to grow roots in one of the Caribbean’s most robust and fast-growing economies. Here is a 3 bedroom family home located in one of the most family-minded communities on the North Coast, Sosua Ocean Village located just minutes from International School of Sosua.

Curriculum

Impressingly, the International School of Sosúa is a private, secular, college-preparatory school accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvanceED) (USA) and thus is recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic. Over 25 nationalities are represented on the ISS campus and many children speak as many as three languages. The core curriculum leads to an American diploma and is taught entirely in English by certified educators of various nationalities. Additionally, students also take Lengua Española & Estudios Sociales each year of school.

The International School of Sosua school calendar is comprised of two semesters, and the school year is 180 days in length. The International School of Sosúa offers a rigorous academic program based on Common Core Standards, AERO Social Studies Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. Class offerings may change from year to year based on the needs of current students. Advanced Placement courses were added in 2015 and have included differing options each school dependent upon teacher qualifications and student interest.
