Cabarete is a tourist area recently named the Wind and Surf Capital of the Dominican Republic. It is an area of the island that combines mountains, lagoons and white sand beaches.
The lifestyle in Cabarete is the main attraction for both tourists and people who have adopted Cabarete as their new home often referred to as “ex-pats.”
Watersport Capital of Dominican Republic
Cabarete became a tourist destination in the 90’s when windsurfing was popular all around the world. Perfect wind and waves for watersports essentially put Cabarete on the map. Even the sport of kitesurfing that was invented around that time has had lots of its development history here on the beaches of Cabarete.
Kiteboarding in Cabarete
Today, due to 330 days of wind Cabarete remains a top 10 destination for kitesurfing. Kite Beach is considered a world class kiting spot and has been the hometown of some of the worlds best kite surfers. Two time vice-world champion, 2018 World Champion, and Youth Olympic Gold medalist Adeuri Corniel was born and raised in Cabarete. There is also Lorenzo Calcaño and Alex Soto, who are still on the circuit and are top ten athletes in the world to name a few.
